“Thank God every morning when you get up that you have something to do that day which must be done, whether you like it or not. Being forced to work, and forced to do your best, will breed in you temperance and self-control, diligence and strength of will, cheerfulness and contentment, and 100 virtues which the idle never know.”
Charles Kingsley
I needed that today.

Love the quote; however, the misspelling of “idol” is distracting. The context refers to the “idle.”

Yes, I agree. My source spelled it that way and I tend not to alter direct quotes. However, as you were thinking the same as me, I decided to break my rule of leaving quotes as they are and changed it. A few others have done the same, so I suppose it fine to edit every now and then…

A reminder of the value of a good work ethic… much needed in today’s world … yes, “Being forced to work, and forced to do your best, will breed in you temperance and self-control, diligence and strength of will, cheerfulness and contentment” – – – but working when you are retired, working when you are not forced to, working because there is something to be done and you do it willingly… that’s the real joy! ❤
